Map Info & Chart : [Request] I’m working on a project to map as many endonyms as possible (the names that people give to the areas that they live in), and I’d appreciate some feedback.

tl;dr: Visit [https://endonyms.org](https://endonyms.org), click the button to participate, and let me know what you think.

I’ve always wondered about what the difference is between the official boundary of a given location (like “The Midwest”) and what the boundary would be if it was defined by the people who live there.

For example, I live in Medford, Oregon, which is considered part of the Rogue Valley. The Rogue Valley doesn’t have a literal border, but it is generally considered to be the area around the Rogue River, from Grants Pass to Ashland. However, I wonder how far away from the actual Rogue River you’d have to go before people stop considering themselves to live in the Rogue Valley.

To answer questions like these, I built [The Endonym Project](https://endonyms.org/). It’s both a tool for collecting endonyms and a place to display them (currently just a map that only uses submitted location names as labels, which change depending on your zoom level). I’d appreciate feedback on either part, and thanks in advance.
