Video Infographic : Drone Strikes In Pakistan 2004 – 2015 Infographic
Video
Description
SINCE 2001, the United States government has been conducting an international campaign of “targeted killings” using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. This infographic provides a visual timeline of reported drone strikes in Pakistan from 2004 to 2015.
The primary source of data used in this presentation is the The Bureau of Investigative Journalism’s (BIJ) CIA drone strikes in Pakistan, 2004 to present. To compile the number of “High Profile” targets, we referenced the BIJ’s written description of each attack as well as New America’s list of Leaders Killed. Many of the names that appear refer to known al Qaeda operatives or Taliban commanders killed in specific strikes.
The BIJ’s casualty estimates are divided into four sections: total people killed, total civilians killed, total children killed, and total injured. Each is expressed as a range. In our presentation, we use the minimum number provided. When the data sheet does not cite a specific location, we used the latitude and longitude of the general area named (ex. North Waziristan).
TOTAL KILLED includes civilians, high-profile targets and alleged militants
CIVILIANS KILLED includes the estimated number of CHILDREN KILLED
HIGH PROFILE refers to high ranking and important militant targets
